Journalist Rozina Islam's bail hearing is on Sunday

The court rejected a police request to remand Rozina Islam, a senior journalist at Prothom Alo in Bangladesh and ordered her to be sent to jail. He was then taken to jail in a prison van from the court.

He was produced in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court this morning and remanded for five days by the police. Bail was also sought on behalf of Rozina Islam's family.

At one point he got sick and went to the floor later. He was handed over to the police around 8 pm.

He was taken to Shahbagh police station in Dhaka from the secretariat.

Journalists alleged that he was taken out of the hospital for treatment and taken directly to the police station.

At night, various media workers protested in front of Shahbagh Police Station.

A case has been filed against Rozina Islam at Shahbagh police station around midnight on charges of stealing under the 180 Penal Code and under the Official Secrets Act of 1923 for removing state secret documents and taking pictures without permission.

Rozina Islam has been discussed at various times to report on irregularities and corruption in various ministries including the Ministry of Health.

Boycott of the Ministry of Health briefing

Journalists working in the health sector and the secretariat have boycotted a press briefing called by the health ministry at around 11am today to report what happened to Rozina Islam. The decision to boycott the briefing was announced earlier by the Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum. They attended the briefing and walked out of the briefing room protesting the harassment of Rozina Islam. Health ministry officials present at the time urged them to sit down. But the journalists protested and everyone left.
